The lab

Exploring in the lab

Plug in wires, build a circuit, add a switch, test it. Question first, then the experiment: your child builds the circuit themselves – with real parts, chosen for kids and with someone to show them how.

“Why won’t the lamp light up?”

Through your child’s eyes

“How do I make the traffic light blink?”

What your child does here: Plug in wires, build a circuit, add a switch, test it.

The real thing at the end:

A lamp that lights up.

Through your eyes

What’s behind it

Question first, then the experiment: your child builds the circuit themselves – with real parts, chosen for kids and with someone to show them how.

Along the way, your child practises:

  • Asking questions
  • Understanding tech
  • Sticking with it

Instead of just listening: Your child doesn’t have to know the answer by heart. They find it out.

  • Ages: to be decided

How it might look at different ages

Examples for orientation – not age limits. Who for? Age limits are still to be decided.

  1. Ages 3–5

Mixes colours with a pipette and water and finds out what floats and what sinks.

Along the way, your child practises: Observing, asking, guessing

  2. Ages 6–8

Builds a circuit – and sees for themselves when the lamp lights up.

Along the way, your child practises: Trial and error, cause and effect

  3. Ages 9–12

Wires up a traffic-light circuit of their own with LEDs on a breadboard.

Along the way, your child practises: Planning, testing, improving

    What your child does

    • Wire a circuit until the lamp lights up.
    • Build a traffic-light circuit with LEDs.
    • Watch what floats and what sinks.

Try it

Make Fitty’s pompom light up.

Flip the switch. Nothing happens? Then find the gap.

Switch on, circuit closed, lamp lit – here your child tries it with real wires.

Drawing: a 4.5-volt battery, a toggle switch and wires. Fitty’s pompom is the lamp.

Here it happens for real – with real wires and real tools.

Questions and answers

How safe are real tools?
Real tools need clear rules. Our safety concept is in progress: which tools from what age, who leads, what protective gear. We’ll publish it before anyone picks up a screwdriver for the first time.
Who leads the classes?
We’re settling that right now. We’ll introduce course leaders and their qualifications once they’re confirmed – no names before that.
What ages is TRALLAFITTY for?
Age limits for the individual activities are still being decided. The optional age band on the waiting list helps us plan – it isn’t an admission promise.
